Why Reasons Ministries?

According to a recent survey almost 60% of self-described evangelicals said that there is more than one way to heaven!  Some surveys place that number even higher!  In another survey, only about 10% of born again believers have a Christian worldview!  Unfortunately, many Christians today do not know what or why they believe, cannot discern truth from error, and are easy prey for false teaching and false teachers.

A recent donor (04/2012) to Reasons Ministries wrote:  "Throughout most of my life being a Christian was seen as being a good thing.  However in the past few years, I have noticed that has been changing.  I notice on the social networks, that my children are being attacked for defending their Christian beliefs.  Most of the opposition against Christians seems to come from people that know very little about the Bible and our beliefs.  That is why I believe we need people and ministries that will explain and defend our beliefs.  I consider you and Reasons Ministries to be on the front lines doing this.  My wife and I have felt led to donate this small sum to help your ministry to continue to educate those of us that need to have the knowledge to defend our beliefs."

For these and many other reasons, Reasons Ministries exists.

In the summer of 2008, after spending time in prayer and thought about the kind of ministry that would fit with my gifting and passion, and after teaching a New Testament class at Indiana Wesleyan University here in Louisville, the initial dream for this ministry was birthed.  Over time, the dream began to take shape.  After receiving affirmation and encouragement from my wife, friends and others the specifics of this ministry slowly began taking shape.   The Reasons Ministries mission statement sums up the reasons for Reasons' existence:
Reasons Ministries exists to equip believers in the local church to know what and why they believe so they can stand firm in the Christian faith and be effective tools in God’s hand for reaching those that do not yet know Christ and to be able to apply practical apologetics to everyday life.
This mission is reflected in 1 Peter 3:15-16:

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to every one who asks you to give the REASON for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect....” NIV
